Ajinomoto Philippines Opens Bulacan Facility for Educational Factory Tours

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has introduced the World of Ajinomoto Philippines Factory Tour at its Bulacan facility, offering visitors a firsthand look at the processes and values behind one of the Philippines' most recognized seasoning brands. This initiative is designed to provide an educational and interactive experience surrounding umami, the science of monosodium glutamate (MSG), and the company’s evolution over more than 65 years.

The tour, which recently welcomed members of the media, allows attendees to observe each step involved in producing Ajinomoto products in the Philippines. From manufacturing and packaging to storage and delivery, the facility demonstrates strict quality assurance measures and environmentally conscious operations. A highlight of the visit is a curated sensory activity that helps participants understand the unique role of umami in food flavor.

Company leaders present at the launch included Senior Vice President Makoto Tanabe, President Daizaburo Koga, and Director for Sales, Marketing, and Public Relations Mika Makino.

The factory tour is free of charge and forms part of APC's efforts to support the Ajinomoto Group’s 2030 Roadmap. This global initiative aims to extend healthy life expectancy for two billion people and reduce environmental impact by half.

Upon entering the facility, visitors are introduced to the factory’s hygiene protocols, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in food production. APC President Daizaburo Koga stated that opening the factory to the public addresses increasing interest from students, educators, organizations, and community groups seeking practical learning experiences. Previously, the company offered more straightforward tours, primarily for students, but has since expanded the program to provide a more structured and engaging format.

The factory tour covers key areas, including the World of Innovation, where dried goods are produced, and the World of Chambers, which showcases the system for tracking, sorting, and preparing products for delivery. The tour also highlights sustainable practices, such as the use of 100% renewable energy and the introduction of an Electric Vehicle (EV) truck for logistics, supporting Ajinomoto’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

The tour also features additional initiatives, such as I Love Veggielicious® and BawAsin®. These programs promote increased vegetable consumption and reduced salt intake, respectively, while maintaining flavor.

Mr. Koga noted that the tour aligns with the company’s philosophy of “Eat Well, Live Well,” aiming to encourage nutritious and enjoyable meals as a way to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable society.

The World of Ajinomoto Philippines Factory Tour operates every Tuesday and Thursday, with sessions at 9:00–11:00 AM and 3:00–5:00 PM. Each session requires a minimum of 15 participants, and you can make special arrangements for larger groups with advance notice.
