The long wait is almost over for fans of the worldwide hit “Ang Mutya ng Section E,” as its much-anticipated second season, “The Dark Side,” is set to premiere this December. This Philippine drama series, which captured audiences not just locally but also in countries like Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and India, left viewers on a cliffhanger last April. The season one finale sealed a kiss between Jay-Jay and Keifer, portrayed by Gen Z stars Ashtine Olviga and Andres Muhlach—an ending that appeared joyful, but complications soon surfaced with Jay-Jay’s engagement to Yuri, Keifer’s best friend, played by Rabin Angeles.
Season two, “Ang Mutya ng Section E: The Dark Side,” picks up where the drama left off, with Jay-Jay caught in a web of complicated emotions. As he assists her in her search for her father, Keifer abruptly leaves to address his family's issues, testing her growing feelings for him. Meanwhile, Yuri remains steadfast in his affection for Jay-Jay, determined to win her heart and make her his bride. The dynamic between the three leads sets the stage for even more intense and emotional episodes.
The second season is helmed by acclaimed director Petersen Vargas, whose portfolio includes box-office successes “Un/Happy For You” and “A Very Good Girl,” as well as critically acclaimed works like “Sometimes I Feel Like Walking,” “An Inconvenient Love,” “Hello Stranger,” and “2 Cool 2 Be 4Gotten.” Based on Lara Flores’ Wattpad blockbuster with 315 million reads, the show is expected to deliver the same gripping storytelling that fans have come to love.
As classes resume at Higher Value International School, Jay-Jay feels more comfortable than ever in Section E. However, the arrival of new characters threatens to disrupt the already turbulent lives of the main trio. Rhen Escaño joins the cast as Honey Bee Ryder, whose striking presence poses a threat to Jay-Jay and Keifer’s budding romance, while also getting entangled with blue-eyed Percy, played by JD Axie.
Adding even more intrigue is Taneo of the band Alamat as Ryosuke Sato, a member of a powerful Yakuza family with a vendetta against Yuri—and eyes set on Jay-Jay. Austin Dizon’s Jason, a notorious gang leader and Keifer’s nemesis, will also use Jay-Jay as a pawn in his quest for revenge. Family drama intensifies with Joko Diaz as Kaizer Watson, Keifer’s estranged father, and Nathalie Hart as Serina Watson, the only one who holds answers to Keifer’s deepest questions.
The new season will also introduce Billy Villeta as Dylan, Kaizer’s enigmatic bodyguard; Jeffrey Hidalgo as Andy Estrada, the new husband of Jay-Jay’s mother, Jaena (Katya Santos); and Joonee Gamboa as the disapproving Headmaster of the Hanamitchi Clan. Ivan Padilla takes on the role of Atty. Brian Ryder plays the role of Honey Bee's uncle and Keifer's determined lawyer.
