More than 4,000 runners, fans, and families filled the streets for the Cagayan de Oro leg of the EastWest Dream Run 2026 on Sunday, transforming the City of Golden Friendship into a festive celebration of health and community spirit. With all categories sold out and participants coming from Northern Mindanao and beyond, the event underscored the city’s growing reputation as a hub for sports tourism.

Adding star power to the occasion was EastWest brand ambassador Donny Pangilinan, whose presence drew enthusiastic crowds eager for selfies and quick chats. The actor’s appearance generated excitement throughout the race, making him a highlight for thousands who came not only to run but also to meet one of their favorite celebrities.

The EastWest Dream Run, organized by RUNRIO and in support of the Department of Tourism’s Love the Philippines campaign, featured 1K Dog Run, 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K categories. It marked the third stop in a four-leg nationwide series, following successful events in Manila and Iloilo. With each leg, the Dream Run continues to encourage participation and achievement among both competitive and recreational runners.

Race day saw participants conquering portions of the BCI Highway before gathering for the finish at Limketkai Center, where families, friends, and furparents celebrated both personal bests and communal milestones. The celebrations continued at the race village, where complimentary treats, loot bags, and games created a festive post-race atmosphere fit for all ages.

This year’s 21K competitors saw Aialou Guinayon topping the women’s division and Mark Calamba Gumaya emerging as champion in the men’s. Their performances led a strong field of athletes in an event designed to encourage dreams and healthy pursuits.

EastWest’s recent opening of its Limketkai store, just steps from the race venue, further demonstrated the bank’s commitment to supporting communities in Northern Mindanao. “Dream Run brings the idea of making dreams possible to life. The thousands who joined us remind us that dreams can take many forms, but always begin with a single step,” said Martin Reyes, EastWest Chief Marketing Officer.

The event was supported by more than 25 sponsors and partners, including Filinvest, Visa, Power Mac Center, and Ford, highlighting the race’s broad community appeal and the collaborative effort behind its success. Organizers pointed to the turnout as evidence of Cagayan de Oro’s potential as a premier destination for running events in Mindanao.

Whether they were seasoned runners, first-timers, or families hoping to spot Donny Pangilinan, the EastWest Dream Run 2026 in Cagayan de Oro brought together a diverse group of dreamers. The event’s success reflects a growing enthusiasm for fitness and community-driven celebrations throughout the country.
