Josh Yugen champions Filipino fashion at MNL Fashion Week 2026: “Local talent deserves a global market.”
Filipino media entrepreneur and publisher Josh Yugen reaffirmed his commitment to elevating Philippine fashion as he attended MNL Fashion Week 2026 from September 3 to 6, joining leading designers, artists, and international personalities in celebrating Manila’s dynamic creative scene. For Yugen, the week-long event was more than a showcase—it was a meaningful opportunity to advance his mission of connecting Filipino talent with the world.
Yugen’s advocacy is rooted in his experience at the world’s top fashion and entertainment events, from Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks to his Cannes Film Festival red-carpet debut this year. Each global appearance, he shared, reinforces his desire to help Filipino designers and creatives access the same opportunities found on the international stage.
“Every time I attend Paris Fashion Week or Milan Fashion Week, even when I had the privilege of walking the Cannes red carpet, I come home thinking about the Philippines,” Yugen said. “I see what happens when creativity is supported by a strong ecosystem—and I know Filipino talent deserves access to those same opportunities.”
At MNL Fashion Week, Yugen hosted Miss Universe Pakistan 2026 Misbah Arshad, exemplifying his belief that the best way to globalize Filipino fashion is to bring international eyes directly to local creativity. “Whenever international personalities come to the Philippines through our organization, I want them to experience the very best of Filipino creativity,” he explained.
Beyond the runways, Yugen stressed the importance of stronger distribution networks for Filipino fashion. “We have an extraordinary abundance of talent. What we need are sustainable channels so designers can reach the audiences and markets they deserve,” he said, advocating for partnerships with distributors, retailers, and entrepreneurs to commercialize local fashion across all market levels.
Yugen’s vision aligns with the mission of John Lozano, the founder of MNL Fashion Week, to build a platform that expands opportunities for Filipino designers. “I salute John Lozano for having the vision and courage to create a space where Filipino designers can dream bigger,” Yugen said, highlighting the importance of such platforms in positioning Manila alongside other Asian fashion capitals.
Personal transformation was also part of Yugen’s Fashion Week experience. After losing 25 kilograms, he shared that fashion became a renewed source of confidence and self-expression. “Fashion has always been a language of identity. Sometimes transformation gives you the courage to rewrite your story,” he noted.
MNL Fashion Week also became a networking crossroads for Southeast Asia, with Yugen connecting with Thai and other regional guests. He believes Manila can become a creative hub in Asia, facilitating collaborations and international exposure for Filipino designers.
Yugen’s presence at these local and international events is fueled by a clear mission: to turn global visibility into tangible opportunities for Filipino creatives. “We can applaud a young designer’s collection today, but my question is: Where can people buy it tomorrow? Who can distribute it? Who can introduce that designer to the right retailer, celebrity, investor, or international market?” he said.
For Yugen, true leadership means using access to open doors for others. “If we want Philippine fashion to become truly global, we cannot only celebrate those who have already arrived. We must find and support the young designer still dreaming and waiting for their chance,” he said. “Talent deserves more than applause. It deserves infrastructure, investment, distribution—and above all, opportunity.”
