Easy Brand honors Nena Saguil’s artistic legacy with collaborative tribute

Filipino brand Easy Brand paid tribute to the life and legacy of modernist painter Nena Saguil during a special night of art, culture, and customer appreciation on September 30. The event, held in collaboration with the Saguil family, introduced Easy Brand’s creative partnership honoring Saguil’s contributions to Filipino art and global abstraction.

The evening featured the official launch of Easy Brand’s authorized use of Nena Saguil’s distinctive watermark trademark, a symbol granted by Benjamin Saguil on behalf of the Nena Saguil legacy. This collaboration gives Saguil’s iconic artistic identity a new presence in contemporary design and brings her visionary abstractions to a wider audience through Easy Brand’s products and campaigns.

Nena Saguil, born in Santa Cruz, Laguna, is renowned as one of the Philippines’ pioneering modernist and abstract artists. After earning her credentials from the University of the Philippines School of Fine Arts, she furthered her studies in Madrid and Paris, eventually settling in France in 1956. Her cosmic, organic abstractions and spiritual approach to art remain influential across generations.

During the celebration, Easy Brand President and Founder Mark Wang and Chairman and CEO Peter Limquiaco joined customers and partners in recognizing the enduring impact of Saguil’s work. “As a proudly Filipino brand for milk tea, coffee, and restaurant use, we were keen to collaborate with a Filipina artist who embodies creativity and innovation,” Wang shared. He traced his inspiration back to his personal appreciation for Saguil’s art and a meaningful meeting with her family.

The collaboration reflects Easy Brand’s commitment to celebrating Filipino creativity and heritage. Wang added, “With the help of Councilor Nanette Daza, we are also supporting efforts to recognize Nena Saguil as a National Artist.” The event highlighted both the brand’s appreciation for its loyal community and its dedication to elevating local art.

Saguil focused deeply on her craft during her journey from Manila to Paris and her decision to live a reclusive life in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Her works, which transitioned from figurative to abstract, have been displayed in prestigious venues, including the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Ateneo Art Gallery, and the National Centre of Art Contemporary in France.

Saguil’s international recognition continues to grow, with her art showcased at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024. Her influence also extends through posthumous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Merit awarded in 2006 for her contributions to Philippine art.

By integrating Saguil’s watermark into its brand, Easy Brand aims to connect the artist’s legacy with new generations and contemporary culture. The collaboration emphasizes the brand’s mission to unite art, tradition, and creativity through everyday experiences.

Easy Brand’s celebration not only honored an artistic legend but also reinforced its values of community, heritage, and innovation, ensuring that Saguil’s cosmic vision continues to inspire Filipinos and art lovers worldwide.
