Regal Entertainment has announced its latest comedy-drama, One For The Road, starring Elijah Canlas, Emilio Daez, and JM Ibarra as three friends whose lives are transformed by a spontaneous road trip. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kip Oebanda, the film promises both comedic adventures and heartfelt moments as it explores the bonds of friendship.
Set against the backdrop of working-class pressures and personal struggles, One For The Road follows four friends escaping their everyday realities for a journey that brings laughter, conflict, and self-discovery. More than a typical road-trip movie, the film tackles themes of grief, mental health, and the challenges of growing up, all while celebrating the friendships that become family.
JM Ibarra takes on the role of Garry, a barista who uses humor to mask his frustrations. Elijah Canlas plays Ariel, a rising actor trapped in a manufactured love team, hoping the trip will offer him a taste of freedom away from the spotlight. Emilio Daez portrays Luke, an academic achiever and bank employee struggling with emotions logic can’t fix. The fourth member of the barkada, Jomar, is yet to be cast.
Director Kip Oebanda, known for his work on Bar Boys, Balota, and Liway, co-wrote the screenplay with Victor Villanueva of Patay na si Hesus. This collaboration brings together two of the most creative voices in Filipino cinema, promising a film that balances humor with real-life depth.
The film aims to resonate with young adults who relate to the pressures of ambition, expectations, and the search for identity. Regal Entertainment believes that the film’s honest portrayal of male friendship and vulnerability will connect with both audiences and critics.
The dynamic casting of Canlas, Daez, and Ibarra brings together three of the most promising actors of their generation, each known for their versatility and emotional range. Their performances are expected to add both humor and authenticity to the film.
With production underway, anticipation is building for One For The Road as it prepares to offer audiences a fresh take on the barkada genre—one that is as funny as it is deeply moving. Further casting announcements and a release date are expected soon.
More than a road-trip comedy, One For The Road celebrates the friendships that become family—and the people who stay with us through life’s mistakes, struggles, and unexpected turns.
